it went tick, clank bang and boom

It seems like every time I try to make an effort to get back to this blog the universe has another plan.

The other day I picked up my laptop to check on comments and see what was going on with some of my blog friends and I heard this noise... It sounded like a pebble was stuck in the fan of my laptop; then within minutes it progressed to a much louder sound more reminiscent to pots and pans being banged around inside my computer.

I remember thinking to myself, this is not good. So I took a chance and turned it off and then back on again while silently praying that it would actually work.

Hallelujah, it was actually ON and there was no sound!

That's when I noticed the white letters displayed on my screen "the main fan has failed - in order to not harm your system this machine will shut down automatically in 15 seconds".

Sigh....

I do not care to use my husbands desk top (that's his space)  and my smartphone is really not all that functional for writing blog posts. It has more to do with the fact that everything is so darn small and I'd just rather not squint or use a magnifying glass.

Needless to say my poor computer had to go the computer doctor (Russell) to be fixed.. and now thanks to him I'm back in business.

What do you do when your computer goes on the fritz?

  1. My computer is still on the fritz from Thanksgiving Day! I accidentally spilled just the smallest amount, really, of white wine on it and poof! I couldn't believe it. So I've put on my glasses and am writing an occasional short piece on my phone, but UGH, it's not easy! Need to get into the genius bar stat! Glad yours is fixed!!!

  2. I'd be lost without mine, I don't even have a smart phone and I would hate to intrude on hubby's computer space.

    1. Gina, I can't believe you've gone so long without a computer And seriously my friend that must have been some vintage!!

Ms A, I totally agree about hubby's space, what's theirs is theirs... I wouldn't go into the garage and clean it either ha ha!

  3. Sorry to hear about your computer woes, Jen! Glad you are up and back running! I know what you mean about your cell phone not being optimal for writing posts. I have a tablet and its hard to comment on blogs with it or write posts too so I prefer not to use it for blogging. Thank God but so far its been a while since computer problems here, but I always panic when they stop working.

    1. It took some effort to learn how to type as an adult and now I'm pretty darn good at it!! I didn't much pay attention to those classes in high school sorry to say. Using my fingers poking on a cell phone or tablet just isn't natural. I can't keep up with my thoughts.

    1. Kim,
Mr Liverpool is the man of my dreams, my husband can build things and fix most anything but I swear he can't even text.

      Susie,
I think I would have won awards for channel surfing while the darn thing was in the shop. And the sad thing is I realized I'm paying for a zillion channels with nothing on them.

  7. I go into straight panic mode! I'm so lost without my computer. Even though I have an iphone & ipad it's not the same as having a pc. I'm in a depressed state until it's up & running again.

  9. I scream, slam cupboards, and stomp around, then set to work trying to fix it. I had a fan go out too, but my last incident was a crash. I was too irritated to even call the tech man, so I tried to tackle it myself and voila! I did it (with the help of reading many Microsoft tutorials online.) I'm hoping I'm going to be problem free with this computer for at least a few more months. Once summer is here I'm busy painting for art shows, so another crash wouldn't bother me as much. But I'd still stomp around for a while. :-)

  10. ARGH! Computer issues! They are the worst. I hand the problem to my hubby. If he can't fix things,I try to talk myself out of needing a computer at all! They have become a necessary evil. :-)
