I'm stumped!

I have been totally stumped for something to write about on this blog this past week.

And here I had plans to do something shockingly witty for my 300th post which is not gonna happen now!

I've got nothing, nada, goose eggs!

I've come to the conclusion that the more I force myself to try to write the less likely I am to do so.

Out of desperation I decided to write a post about not being able to think of anything to blog about, pitiful right?

Seriously though, I know this head isn't an empty vessel; it has all these bits of ideas floating around in it, nothing cohesive though.

Why is it then that I can't seem to access those bits creatively? UGH!!

So in the spirit of the theory misery loves company, tell me....has this happened to you?

Do you do anything special to push thru it?

Any tips or advice to help a gal out?

  1. oh yes, it happens to me--- more than I care to admit. so then I don't post. :) I do belong to faithful bloggers and they often include blog post ideas and link-ups if you use the topic. that often jogs my pea-brain into some sort of activity. hope that maybe helps you. and congrats on 300!!! whoo hoo!!

  3. Congrats on 300! I think we all go through this; I wrote a similar thing a few months back. I blog at whim so if I can't come up with something, I usually don't blog unless its been a week or so and I'm not on a blog break then I try to come up with something creative and that's hit and miss, LOL. I don't think I could blog every day unless it is theme oriented like the A-Z challenge :)

    enjoy Sunday!

  4. It has happened to me MANY MANY times. It seems like I get stressed out too. Writing for me (especially a blog post) is like getting a fix (I suppose - okay lets say a chocolate fix). Anyway it makes me feel great. When time passes and I can't get my hands on any chocolate - ooops I got sidetracked - can't think of anything to write or get to it I get really cranky. You aren't by yourself. ;-) Wow 300 posts - congrats to that!

  5. Sure, that happens - but I remind myself that this is a creative endeavor, not my livelihood. I know that everything changes and some idea will come along.
The other thing I do is I go back to my drafts. See, I have a bunch of things that I have started at one time or another. I got stumped or stalled in original process of writing but then I come back to it and, sometimes, the moment is right. I can be inspired by something I started some weeks/months back.

  6. Oh yes...absolutely has.
Have you tapped into a journal and tried to pull out an idea from there?
You can also go to Kludgy Mom's blog. THere is a list of blog ideas...some really wonderful ones.
Also have you tried Mama Kat's writers workshop??

    1. Haven't done a personal journal since the kids, lots of stuff but it's all pretty depressing. SO... I'm gonna check out Kludgy Mom's blog, never visited her before, done Mama Kat's thought just not recently.

  7. Everybody has those moments. I like to do rambling posts where I use bullets or single sentences to just write down the random things on my mind. It's short, it's sweet, and it gets the juices flowing.

  8. Best advice I can give is stop thinking about it and let the ideas just come to you. It sounds hard, but when I stop thinking about what I'm going to write, ideas for blog posts just keep popping up around me!

  11. Yes this happens to me usually on a day like today when hubby is away and I'm home with all the time in the world to write. Luckily it hasn't happened today and I'm doing well (which is why I'm reading other people's blogs!) If it happens I just have to give up until the light switches back on in my head,I also have a few posts I've started and not finished and I'll go back to them ,if that fails ther's always posts I've been tagged in,ten best books, ten things about me and they usually get the brain going. Don't worry your muse will appear again soon.

  12. Holy Moley!...300 posts! Congrats! Now, to answer your question...yes, drawing a blank has happened to me many of times. Not with writing though, but with art. Sometimes I can sit and stare at a blank sheet of paper for hours & get nada. Then I'll go surf the internet for inspiration and still nada. It frustrates the heck out me! Then out of the blue, something as simple as a cookie falling on the floor and breaking into bit pieces comes an "Aha" moment! lol Inspiration for me comes from the weirdest places.

    1. Thanks Sonya,
I was kinda feeling alone with this. Not any more!

I think you hit it right though, just doing regular things is probably a good way to knock some ideas loose!

    1. So many people keep folders, unfinished posts in draft, notebooks, use their journals, take breaks.
I've gotten tons of great advice from this post, yours included.
      Thanks Sylvia!
