sneaky folks

credit
They rolled me into the operating room and the anesthesiologist said to me from behind.

” I’m putting a little something in your IV; you’re going to feel it in a second or two”.

We got into the operating room,  they asked me to scoot over from the gurney to the operating table, feeling no pain from the drugs I happily complied.

“I don’t remember feeling like this since I had a few to many beers at a party at my cousin Colleen’s house and fell up the stairs.”

This I shared since apparently I become chatty Suzie on drugs.
I adjusted my pillow, my blankets..

“There you are, surgery went well, I was wondering when you were going to wake up.” I’ll get some ice for that foot”.

Those anesthesiologists are sneaky folks.

    1. Sonya,
Had minor surgery to remove the bone spur from hell from my foot/big toe area! According to the drugs the surgery was over in one minute!! hehe But it actually took about an hour!! All is fine, thanks to a good surgeon and Vicodin.

  5. That sounds so painful Jen but hopefully your foot will be sorted and pain free. They must hear some funny things in the operating room. I had a procedure once and was given sedation but was still awake I remeber telling the surgeon how it was just like a hospital tv programme I watched. I think I went on and on.

All's well with the foot! I'll be happy to get all these bulky bandages off when I go for a follow up on Sat morning with the surgeon.

    1. Feet? I couldn't imagine doing it twice Paula!
I just hate having to walk all sideways with this big bulky bandage on my foot... now the pain in my foot is turning into a pain in my back!

    2. I didn't do it twice! That is what made it such an adventure. I did both feet one time. Was on the couch with feet elevated for 6 weeks except for trips to the bathroom. Wasn't something I would chose to repeat. But I knew if I did one foot at a time then I wouldn't get the other foot done ever.

  7. Hi Jen - interesting to compare notes ... I had to walk to theatre - then they sorted things and yes I had to raise my legs on to the operating something (I suppose)! The only thing I remember about waking up was the time - why I've no idea ... and then nothing except when I woke to '******' regularly .. until 6.00 am !8 hours later ... when I sort of came too. Just exhausted and something disagreed - I was fine ... another 6 hours later. But I guess an op for 60 - 90 mins was somewhat longer than yours ... new hip is fine .. but I have no covering ... they glued me up and sent me packing!!!

I'll catch the next posts - hope all is healing well for you .. cheers Hilary

    1. I'm fairly sure you had full anesthesia yes? Your surgery was major, mine was just a quick minor procedure. I only had sedation. He told me rather jokingly when he was explaining that he was going to use the "michael jackson" drug Propofol to put me just under enough to keep me under.

He then suggested to me that he'd only use full anesthesia/ tubes down the throat and all if I had trouble breathing due to my sleep apnea.

My incision is three inches from the base of my big toe straight down the top of my foot, stitches on the inside, stripes on the outside. I have to keep it dry for more than two weeks. I actually put a surgical glove on my foot and tape it into place to shower. Not showering is to yucky to consider!!
