what kind of bees make milk?

Remember that joke? The answer is boobies of course! I went for my mammogram recently. I take my breast heath very seriously. I do my self exams every month, how about you? I thought it was important to mention this topic and to remind all my dear female readers to make sure to take care of themselves.

If for any reason you're not sure what to do or when to do it, ask your doctor, he or she will be able to explain what your mammogram schedule should be for your age group. Take care of those boobs ladies!

Now for the not so serious.....
When I go, I try not to laugh out loud when they make me sign the form saying that I'm sure I'm not pregnant. A pregnancy at 53 duh! I try not to breathe to deeply it can be a smelly day, remember there's no deodorant on mammogram day.  And I refrain from screaming and yelling and resorting to physical violence when the lady just about pulls my boob from it's rightful place before she squeezes it between the two plastic plates. Oh did I mention the radiation?  Just sayin!

I bet you can hardly wait!
Stories anyone?

  1. Hey there! Yes, my breast health is very important. My sister and my neighbor are both breast cancer survivors. However, it was the self exams that brought them to the doctor, not the mammograms. The mammograms came up negative. So always be sure to do self exams.

  4. It's time for my mamo, just got a reminder from the radiologist last week. I am pretty sure the mamogram machines were invented by a sadist.

  11. Hi

Loved your post today...it really hits home. That cartoon is awesome! That is what you think you're going to look like when you emerge from the torture chamber--te he!

I had my mammogram about three weeks ago, and it is a wonderful feeling when you get the letter saying that your checkup was normal.

Thanks for stopping by my blog....I'll certainly be back to yours--Cheers

  12. Thanks for the reminder. I'm overdue for a good boob smashing. I wonder if the no deodorant thing is just a cruel joke they play on us?

  13. Great post & it's great to remind women to do this. We all need to examine ourselves just to be sure & also to get to know the shape/size/feel of your boobs to see if there is any change so it can be checked asap.

  14. You weren't kidding me --- you talked about boobies for your "B" post too! Nicely done, being informative. I laughed when you said the dr. asks about possibility of pregnancy --- I can't have any more kids because I'm "fixed" due to health issues, so it used to make me cry every time they asked me, but now I just think it's funny. Glass half-full! And this is a particularly timely topic for me as I have to get my boobies checked soon --- I've had a pain on the underside of my leftie which my dr. thinks is merely an infected cyst, but we're being careful, just as you suggested, & getting it "radiated". Thanks for the smile before I go get mine done! :)

  16. At the other end of the spectrum...

I had to take my 2-year-old in for an x-ray when he hurt his foot. As I carried him back toward the exam room, the nurse asked me, "Is there any chance you could be pregnant?" I just stared at her and replied, "Only about 5 months!" The expression on her face as she did a double-take was priceless! She obviously hadn't bothered to really look at me, or she would have seen my bulging belly.

    1. That is So funny! Sorry your daughter go hurt hope she's ok now. Maybe they just ask as a matter of course so they don't get sued??? Who knows!

    2. Jen,

That was long ago--now I'm in my fifties, not possibly pregnant, and getting my boobie squished every year. Yes, I said boobie (singular)--I lost the other one to cancer when I was 36 (between my third and fourth kids). Been cancer-free ever since, praise the Lord!

I'm sure getting sued is one of the reasons they ask, but there is the legitimate medical reason, also--exposing a pre-born child to X-rays could possibly be harmful to his development.

  21. Oh Jen, I wish you could see the sour look on my face. Mine annual is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:45 am. This year I asked for first available because my armpits can't seem to make it past 8:30 without deodorant. Considering that the tech is practically up in your armpit, I feel sorry for them! Oh I hate mammo day. My boobies are sensitive and I I hate pulling those things off the nipple when its all over. UGH. Waaaaaah!
