theme‘My views of the south’as seen thru the eyes of a former New Yorker
We live in a rural area. In fact there aren't any sidewalks outside of the town proper; and in town there's one stop sign, seriously! And lighted roads (street lights)? Few and far between.
When I first moved south, it was hard for me to drive in total darkness. It took a good amount of time for my eyes to adjust to the darkness. Funny but now when I go home to New York it’s the reverse!!

When the sun goes down it is DARK.
The stars, moon and planets hang in the sky like jewels in the night.
Here we get our light as God intended, the natural way!
This is a picture of the evening sky out my backdoor.
And what a beautiful light it is!!! Wow, Jen, awesome photo!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen - stunning .. love it - our moon over the coast here varies a great deal - but sadly it's not a dark area ... not as bright as London, but ... still lit up .. beautiful photo .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteLove this shot. I moved from Queens to upstate NY and it took me some tome to drive with no city lights. Sound like it's even darker there
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is an STUNNING picture. Truly beautiful. I know what you mean; I used to live in Brooklyn, and I move from there to Vermont. I couldn't get over how dark it was at night, and how many stars you could see!
ReplyDeleteMs A. Indeed!
DeleteHilary, Love the moon over the water, it's probably my favorite sight...
MaryAnne, Lived in Astoria the first year of my life, Dark and quiet, when we first moved here the quiet kept me awake.
Liz, My dad was born and raised in Brooklyn.so I understand that Vermont is quite a change!
A beautiful picture. I live in a town with a street light outside my bedroom window, I have to use blackout blinds to stop the light intruding. I long for the countryside sometimes.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. That's how we were meant to live, with the ability to see the moon, stars and planets. I live is a suburban area, with a lot of open space and that affords us some similar luxuries, but the view is not quite the same. That shot is priceless.
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning. And how lucky that you captured the beauty of a full moon!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of our summer cottage in Canada. Very peaceful!

Sally, To tell you the truth Sally I long for the beach most days not that I don't love where I live because I do..
DeleteSilvia, I think we give up some things to get some things Silvia, that's life!
Paula, That baby was shining on you too!
Jolie, Sounds like a wonderful place, my poppa was from PEI
Heavenly. What a stunning shot! xx
ReplyDeleteThat's really gorgeous. The moon is huge!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! When I am at the bus stop with Christopher at 6:20 am at the "pitchest" of dark before dawn certain times a year I say how awesome the moon and stars are that shine light.
ReplyDeleteCool picture of the moon, Jen! I bet it is fun to go outside and look up at the stars; what a great show they put on without any city lights!
ReplyDeletebetty
Kim, I look up more now then ever since they've been gone..
DeleteJE, Sometimes it looks like it's going to drop right down out of the sky..
Kenya, It's beautiful isn't it. And i'm so glad I'm not getting up that early anymore haha!
Betty, It is Betty, Gods own light show that we all get to enjoy for free if we'd only look up.
I love the South...of course, I was born and raised here...and unless the Good Lord tells me otherwise, I will stay here until I die. I'm curious where you are? I'm in Alabama.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic photograph :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a rural area and though I live in a city now, I find myself beginning to yearn for something... different :)
Beautiful! I miss the gorgeous night sky in my rural hometown. What we see here in the city pales in comparison.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I live in a rural area too... and wouldn't go back! Not having street lamps and being able to see the stars? Priceless :)
ReplyDeleteBrown R, I'll never leave the south either, Lived on Alabama Street once haha! But now I'm in South Sentral Virginia (which is where I'm writing about) also have a residence in N, Florida.
ReplyDeleteRhonda, Thanks I appreciate that coming from a real photographer..
Marcy. When I go home to NY after a few days I need to be back here. It' s so i understand completely.
Wendy, I couldn't agree more. The only place that might be able to pull me away from here is the beach, and I'd probably have to win the lottery for that to happen..
I’m going to add to the chorus. That photo is stunning. Nice enough to print and frame! I don’t know if I could get used to utter darkness, though, especially if I had to drive in it.
ReplyDeleteLovely. I live in a small town in the countryside now and there is little light pollution - so nice to be able to gaze at the stars when there isn't a bright moon like yours :)
ReplyDeleteJude visiting from the A_Z challenge.
Wow...again...another amazing photo, Jen. There is nothing like country living in the DARK....the sounds, the moon and the stars are all so much more accentuated. I love the fireflies on a dark night. Thanks for your visits this first week of AtoZ. I appreciate your comments and have enjoyed your them, photos and blog very much.

Can't beat that natural light, Jen. What a great shot!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! It's nice to be in a place where you can actually see all the stars in the sky.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Jen. There are so many lights here we never get to see the stars. I found a big difference in Turkey in our rural villa walking home at night with a torch to guide us as it was pitch black.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that is too beautiful for words. I've never seen the moon so big. You are a great photographer, btw.
