me or regularly read this blog know...
I love the beach; so naturally beach is my "B" word.
I thought right off the bat in this blogging challenge I'd mix it up a bit by adding photographs in my posts if appropriate. I have personally visited all of these beaches and taken all of these photographs.
Lets visit some of my favorite beaches together shall we?
This first beach is a lovely beach in St Maarten.
Hawaii
And what would beach pictures be without at least one beach story?
Back in the late 1970's my brother lived in a house right beside this very beach in Haleiwa, Hawaii. When I arrived on the island the first thing I did was put on my suit and jump in the water right in this very spot. I dove into the beautiful clear water being careful of the large rocks that dot the bottom of the oceans floor in this area.
When I came up for air I remember being surprised at the power of the waves and how quickly the next wave approached. Then all of the sudden with the next wave came a surprise I would never forget. A school of slim green fish about six inches long jumped out of the wave and literally slapped against my body one after the other. I stood there waist deep in a hail of live fish and I was one horrified teenager!
Shocked by the fish pelting I ran from the water like gangbusters. My brother was in stitches as he watched this all play out from the safety of the shoreline. Thirty plus years later he still gets a kick out of my reaction which was and I quote....
"I'm never swimming in here again there are fish in there!"
O.K don't laugh to hard I was a teenager remember!
Waimea Bay, Hawaii
Barbados has great beaches and even better rum, if you like that kind of thing!
Long Beach NY, recently hit very badly by the hurricane.
This picture is pre Sandy
Sandbridge, Virginia Beach
So tell me folks what's your favorite place?

Wow, so many lovely beaches! How lucky you have been to visit them all.
ReplyDeleteI could use a beach... and a margarita! Fish are optional.
ReplyDeleteJen,what are you trying to do to me?It's freezing here, the sun is shinning but it just wants to lure me out to the cold. Those beaches are gorgeous.I laughed at your story,I never go snorkling like hubby does when on holiday because I don't want to see the fish or I would never go into the sea.We went onto a beach last year and into the sea and the waves were so strong they knocked me off my feet,I panicked and hubby saved me even although he couldn't stop laughing. We're going to Turkey in May and I'm sending you photos of me on the beach to make up for all those photos that are driving me mad.
ReplyDeleteMy go to place for fun and/or reflection is always the beach. I have enjoyed some days on Hawaiian beaches and I appreciate the tropical feel there. The Northern CA beaches are incredibly powerful with amazing vistas - not for swimming (though surfers in wet suits do have some prime beaches) but great spots for contemplating the universe.
ReplyDeleteLOVELY.
ReplyDeleteHawaii is one of my fave. places in the universe! I will NEVER forget that vacaion.
Xxxx LOVE.
My brother and family live there and truth is I just don't visit enough!
DeleteGreat story and great photos. I usually find there are too many people on the beach for me to enjoy myself.
ReplyDeleteOh man, these are beautiful beaches and your capturing eye make them that much more enticing. All bucket list items, now for me. I haven't ever been on any of these. Maybe some day. This was most welcome on this somewhat chill chill day here in Nova Scotia.
ReplyDeleteRon
I love your story! It makes me smile, but I SO get it. I don't like swimming with fish either. LOL :) Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind swimming with them it's being pelted by them I'm mind!
DeleteSo long as they're not stinging jellyfish I can deal, lol! I'll admit, I laughed over your story and even harder as I pictured your brother. Oh my, wiping the laughter tears away.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about Hawaii's beaches is the turquoise waters and nice sand--ok, I'm fine with black sand too.
I used to swim at Sandbridge all the time. Not as many people. I'm not real fond of a gazillion people when I want to swim. :-)
Awesome pictures. And I can definitely relate on the love for beaches as mentioned in my post. Great minds indeed.

Thanks Elliot!
DeleteJen this is hysterical. Love the pictures especially because its snowing here in upstate NY. Be back tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by for a visit http://talesofthereborncrafter.blogspot.com/
It's funny now! Not so funny then :)
DeleteSo glad I don't live in NY anymore...
I'm with your teenage self about swimming with the fish in the ocean. I like to be on the sand. Although I did feed the fish in Hawaii. I think it was Waimea Bay. Totally freaked me out!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
That's my niece's favorite beach!
DeleteWonderful pictures! Thanks for sharing! My favorite beach is in Australia. On the very northern tip of the Gold Coast there's pure white sand and super shallow crystal clear water. You can walk and walk and only be waist deep. It was like Heaven!! Fun post! ~Angela PS: Watch out for those fish! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh! That sounds like heaven to me. I've never been to Australia. Closest I've ever been is my sixth grade teacher was an exchange teacher from there so we were immersed in his culture and with wonderful stories for the entire school year. It was wonderful!
DeleteOOH Jen. I love the beach too!!! You have some great beach shots here, some which bring back great memories for me as well. I long for the beach. God bless, Maria at Delight Directed Living
ReplyDeleteWe try to spend at least a few weeks at the beach each year. One week as a family vacation and one just Bill and I. Next month is Bill and me's vacation... Bahama's this time! Cannot wait since this season has been so rainy and cloudy!
DeleteBeautiful pictures, I love the beach! I really loved Daytona Beach in Florida because the sand was SOOOO soft. I also loved Sanibel Island because it was a shell beach and fun to look for beautiful shells.
ReplyDeleteWe have been enjoying the beaches here in Santa Barbara for the last 2 week...not in the water...but the sun has been shining. Back to MO this week. :>(

Lmbo @your beach story! Just imagining those fish popping you one by one is hilarious! My favorite beach is Aruba, and next to that Isla Verde in Puerto Rico. Now, you making me long for summer!
ReplyDeleteVery funny! Never been to either, bragger :) I wish it was at the very least sunny more than two days in a row before the clouds descend and the rain comes!
DeleteYou had me chuckling. I would be freaked out if fish were slapping me. lol Great post!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny now but as you imagined you would do freaking out is the correct response!
ReplyDeleteGreat story!
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't appreciate the heat we have around here during the summer months (May- November...LOL) I do love that the beach is a mere 3 miles from our house. I've been here for nearly 30 years and I'm completely addicted to the sounds and smells of the ocean. I can smell it and hear it from my bedroom window. My brother used to live in Hawaii too. I never went to visit while they were there but he enjoyed it very much. Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI so want to go to the beach now! It was in the 30s today. I have to say, Maine has some of the most gorgeous beaches around. The rocky coast is just beautiful. But I'll take the warm water in Florida or Hawaii to go with it. :)
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy a trip to the beach even though it is not one of my favorite destinations. Perhaps if my beach experiences weren't so limited to the Gulf of Mexico and I had traveled to some of the places in your pictures? Maybe one day! Good luck this month!
ReplyDeleteGreat beach story with beautiful photos. I would have been pretty frightened too.
ReplyDeleteJulie
I would do anything to go back to Hawaii. Anything..except eat ham.
ReplyDeleteI hate ham.
Gorgeous photos!
Love going there too! We have such a blast..
DeleteLOL - love that quote. I totally would have said that. But just from that photo alone I wouldn't have gone in. It looks very oceanie from the first step.
