A-Z 2013 the letter G

"He hath given his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways" (Ps. 90:11)

In my entire life even in my darkest moments I’ve never actually felt alone. Now I must in full honesty disclose a few facts however; I come from a big family then got married and had a family numbering seven (five kids).

Spiritually speaking I am a person of faith and I've always believed in angels. But I don't really ever remember the nuns telling me I had my own Guardian Angel; maybe I was sick that day. To be honest I am very open to the thought that maybe that's another reason I've never ever felt alone.

So I've decided that my “G” today would be guardian angel

What about you. Do you believe in guardian angels?

Here are some basic Angel facts before we get to the specifics of what guardian angels do.

  1. Angels are spirits created by God, they do not have bodies, they do however have understanding and free will.
  2. Angels are spiritual beings superior to man and inferior to God; this is of faith. We do not know the number of angels, but we can infer from Holy Scripture that their number is very great.
  3. Before the creation of man, God created hosts of angel; they are pure spirit without bodies in contrast to man.
  4. When angels or devils appear to men, they assume human form or some other visible shape. Thus the angel that appeared to the Mary assumed human form. The devil that tempted Eve appeared as a serpent.

Even demons are pure spirits. They were angels before they became devils. The word "angel" means messenger, and angels have often been sent by God to make known His will to men.

What is a Guardian Angel?

  1. Guardian angels help us by praying for us, by protecting us from harm, and by inspiring us to do good.
  2. Our guardian angels watch over each of us from birth to death.
  3. We should always love and pray to our guardian angel who never leaves our side.
  4. The Catholic Church (yes I'm Catholic) celebrates the feast of the guardian angels on October 2.(my son Eric's birthday)

Guardian angels help us stay positive, moving our will to what is good. They protect souls and bodies in danger. They offer our prayers and good works to God. They pray for us and help us in our work and with our needs.

  1. I also believe in guardian angels. I've had a few close calls where I'm sure my guardian angel was looking out for me.

  2. Yes I believe in angels and talk to them a lot. I had an experience when I was sure I met an angel.I was on a bus, lots of empty seats and an elderly man came on an sat beside me he was wearing the uniform of the Salvation Army.I was feeling quite low I had been unwell for a long time and I was annoyed he sat beside me.He asked me what church I attended I told him and we chatted I said I had been a Sunday school teacher, brownie leader, ran a gospel club but then had to give it up through ill health so my energy woul be spent on my kids, I was feeling guilty about it.The minister and elders had been regular visiters when I as unwell either at home or hospital but since I gave up the clubs etc I had seen no one and I was hurt and mad.
He told me not to blame god for this and turn my back on the church that god cannot be blamed for mens failures. I was not alone. Oh he told me many things but it was the way I felt in his presense. He left the bus just a few stops before mine I turned to wave from the window and he was gone, vanished. Now there was no where for him to go, there was spare ground all around. I looked at the other side of the bus up and down the street, nothing. I am convinced he was an angel,I never saw him again even though I used that bus many times. (sorry this is so long)Funny thing is I had a visit from the minister the following day.

  3. I believe that we are watched over in life, a guardian angel or whatever you'd like to call it. There are certain things in life that you can't explain. Those guardian angels may have something to do with it. :)

  4. I believe God uses angels in taking care of us as well. I always think of the crowd that cheers us on in Hebrews. :)

  5. Ahhh...I'm not sure. I would hope that there is something out there watching over us and protecting us but my faith has gone to "hell". I think it's great that you and so many are able to freely and faithfully believe in something you cannot see.

    1. I understand how hard it is when you feel like your life is constantly being tested to feel like God is on your side.(i went thru that myself after the kids died)

Then one day I was sitting on the couch feeling sorry for myself and it dawned on me; all these wonderful people who I was blessed with who lifted me up each and every day when I was down; He placed all these people in my life because He loves me.

      It was a powerful moment.

  6. I absolutely believe that God uses angels to watch over his people and there are so many examples of their usage in the bible.

I only pray to my heavenly father. I keep in mind what the angel said to the apostle John when he appeared to him with a message. John, recognized him as an angel and bowed to him as a representative from God. The angel told him (paraphrasing here), don't do that. I'm a servant of the most high just as you are. The honor and glory belong only to him. That always impressed me. :-)

  7. Angel of God
    my guardian dear
    to whom God's love
    commits me here.
    Ever this day
    be at my side
to light, to guard, to rule and guide.

Sound familiar? Any little Catholic kid from the 50's or 60's knows that one.
Despite my disdain for the Catholic Church, I LOVE the notion of guardian angels.
I am going to think about this a bit and see if I can resurrect some appreciation and believe in the concept.

  8. I believe in angels, but I don't pray to them--only the creator. I am grateful for whatever service they yield to me, but I really don't give them much thought.

    Happy G day!

  15. As Matthew 18:10 says, I believe that the little ones have their angels in heaven, but there is nothing that states we continue to have assigned angels as we mature. I also pray only to the Father God in the name of Jesus - the only mediator. There certainly are many ministries of angels, but I have no way of knowing the full scope or extent. I do know that in scriptures, even the angels are quick to tell men NOT to worship them; prayer is a form of worship. I love though that the angels marvel at our salvation as only we are able to experience grace. That is truly an amazing concept to me.

  16. I definitely believe in angels, Jen. Biblically, God clearly uses angels in a number of ways. I have no doubt that they are all about us guarding and protecting. Whether a specific guardian angel or some other designation may not be clear, but certainly there is a lot going on in the spiritual realm all about us. The verse you have chosen from the Psalms should be a comfort to us all. Thanks for your post. God bless, Maria from Delight Directed Living
