A-Z 2013 the letter J

credit
I have a confession to make. I love to watch TV. If I don't have music on then the TV is usually on in the background playing one show or another.

While I'm confessing I should also say that when TV used to be free (now I'm getting nostalgic) I didn't mind commercials, I rather liked them. Those commercials used to actually be entertaining, family oriented in some instances and actually fun; and above all there was some great music
if not a bit of a message thrown in for good measure.

You know what I'm talking about right?

My "J" word is jingles.
Here are some of the best ever advertising Jingles.
Sing along with the YouTube videos and enjoy a bit of the past.

I'd like to buy the world a coke (Coca Cola)

Oh I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Wiener (Oscar Wiener)1962

Two all beef patties (McDonalds big Mac 1974)

I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us Kid (Toys R Us) 1982

Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is... (Alka Seltzer)

A few of these jingles remind me of my younger days. Each and every one of them make me smile. There are so many more really fun and enjoyable ones that I found when I was researching this post. Unfortunately I had to limit how many I added to this post.

There was one that just made me laugh out loud. Even though I already have an Alka Seltzer video I couldn't help but put this extra one in for giggles.

Spicy Meatball (alka Seltzer)

Have a favorite childhood commercial jingle?

    1. Rosanna,
I write with my laptop on my lap on the couch. I don't really watch tv as much as listen to it.

      Weird huh?

  2. A fun post, speedy with the Ala setzer brought back memories for me.When I was little I always loved any characters like that who came to life.
We have 4 channels where there's no adverts and for the rest I mostly tape and fast forward through the adverts as these days they're jus so annoying.
When we were in America we couldn't believe how many adverts were on tv.The programme seemed to stop every few minutes to go to an advert.
I think the coke adverts were my favourites.

  3. Love the coke advert. Can't stand the adverts now and try and record programmes so that I can fast forward through the adverts.

  5. Oh, we generation Xers! I remember all of these commercials. My friends and I used to sing the Dial commercial. "What a lovely way to start the morning, cool and clean, and you stay fresh all day. Yes that's the way it is when you use Dial. Aren't you glad you use Dial, and don't you wish everybody did? Aren't you glad you use Dial?"

  8. What a fun trip down memory lane!!! I love the Oscar Mayer Weiner jingle! On a fun side note, in college I got to visit the ad agency that created the Taco Bell dog. I was one of the "screeners" to see if the first commercial was good enough to air. So I have to add that to my list, "Yo quiero Taco Bell!" LOL! ~Angela

  9. Sometimes, you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don't. Almond Joy's got nuts. Peter Paul Mounds don't. 'Cause, sometimes you feel like a nut. sometimes you don't! Just thought I would return the favor and put one of my favorite jingles in your head. :) Great post!

  10. You're right, those commercials used to be entertaining.
My favorites are those around Christmas time. Since I'm shopping anyway, I love seeing what's out there and how they turn whatever product into a funny 'jingle.'
Love the Toys R Us kid ad above. What fun post!

  11. My dad loved to tell a story on me. In Sunday school, we were asked if we wanted to sing a song. I raised my hand and sang about Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer apparently to the amusement of the teacher. TV Commercials are very powerful. My folks didn't drink beer.

  14. I watch quite a bit. It's great background while I knit. As for favorite jingles... None come to mind. But I'm sure one will, just as soon as I hit "publish".

  15. LOL!!!! I ♥ this post. You brought back a few memories for me! Coke, Toys 'R' Us & the Oscar Mayer. Although that particular Oscar Mayer was a little before my time, there was another one with a little boy I remember. My fav is the French's mustard jingle. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray....That little boy is so freaking cute!

  16. Wonderful memories! There was a period of about ten years when we purposely didn't have a TV in our home (video games and sit com re-runs were causing a lot of contention amongst the kids). One of our favorite evening activities was gathering around the computer and bringing up old classic comercials from the internet. It was pretty darn good entertainment!
