summer

"S" is for Summer.

Don't you like the sound of that word summer? We have in the past gone to Sandbridge,Virginia for vacation with my brother and his family. Last summer was a wash out times because I was sick, I spent the entire summer healing that wound on my leg. I wasn't allowed to swim or to go near the sand; it was a long hot summer. The year before we were in Hawaii for my nephew's wedding, two weeks of bliss and family fun.

And since this is not the area of the beach near the hotels it's really quite relaxing. We've never been disappointed in the cleanliness of the beach or the quality of the water. There are an abundance of dolphins swimming up and down the beach. The rental houses are top notch as well.

There's nothing like kicking back with the hubby and enjoying some time with each other and all our other peeps. Beach, cooking, games and puzzles, quality family time. That is after all what summer vacation is about don't you agree?

There are so many songs that I associate with summers past. This Sly & The Family Stone song is just one of many that bring back great memories. Do you have a favorite summer song?

This summer we've decided to try someplace new and although Sandbridge is a wonderful location for summer vacation we've decided to try somewhere new this year. Stay tuned I will reveal it in a later post after we've gone.

Now don't let the sun set without sharing some of you favorite  summer vacation memories. Don't forget to tell us your favorite summer song! Or if you'd rather, tell us where you're going this summer if you don't mind spilling the beans.

  1. Ooh, I love summer. Even down here in the deep south! Practically lived in a pool or on a boat growing up. The only summer song I can think of right now is "San Franciscan Nights," because when I was a teenager it played over and over on the jukebox at the beach hangout on the Gulf Coast. And I slow danced to that song with this boy I had a crush on. He wore Jade East cologne. Ha!

  2. Your beach photos are gorgeous! Living in land-locked Iowa makes me yearn for a beach vacation! No summer vacations planned here. We're still paying off our wedding! :) ~ Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/

    1. Virginia has some beautiful beaches and then there's always the entire Chesapeake Bay area of barrier islands. If you ever decide to vacation you wouldn't go wrong coming here!

  3. I love the houses right on the beach. We go to different parts of Turkey nearly every year. This year we're going to quite a rural place called Kayakoy and staying in a villa next to a ghost village so that should be fun. Favourite summer song is "We're all going on a Summer Holiday" by Cliff Richard, never fails to get me in a good mood.

  4. First of all, I LOVE that picture of y'all! Now, vacation. I adored going to the beach every summer when I was a kid. I remember that song too--during the 5th grade maybe? Anyway, I liked it then, I like it now! When the lovelies were growing up we never really went on vacation. We live only 5 minutes from the beach (Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms) that we just went every day the minute school let out!

  5. I agree with empty nester, that is a beautiful pic of you and hubby. We live in Florida, and sadly, we don't appreciate the beach like we should. We've been here 20 years, and we take it for granted, I know. Summer, for me, tends to be more about traveling north! I love to visit my sister in NC. Cooler weather is always a treat! Thanks for coming by the Ballpark!

  7. I've never heard of Sandbridge, VA. Didn't realize it was part of Virginia Beach (where we have vacationed - hated the crowds). We've enjoyed the Outer Banks, but our favorite place was Sunset Beach, NC. It's an island and we had to use a drawbridge to get on and off. It was Great! But in our opinion, anywhere by either the Atlantic or Pacific is a great place to vacation.
    I Love Summer!

  8. Asses! Great pic of you and your hubby! Love the look of that beach and you know how I love a fine beach.

Every Summer, one of my very best friends puts together a cd/playlist of favorite summer and fun songs from during the year and brings it to me when she visits me in Indiana. We spend the summer at an old, old lake cottage. Have since before the kids were born. We would leave the day after school got out and return the day before school started. We have an old pontoon boat, so she brings the cruising music.

    Hmmm mm....wonder where you're headed?

  9. I'll be on staycation here in Florida as usual. It's rare that we ever go away. I hate traveling for one thing and there's really no need to go when we live right here at the beach. One summer you should come here! :)

  10. That beach looks fantastic! Have only been to one East Coast beach in my life, on Ocracoke Island, on the Outer Banks. That's a nice spot, too!

  12. I do agree, summer is one of those words that just brings a smile to ones face with it's simple utterance. While I've never heard of that spot in VA, in does look divine!
    Happy planning!

  13. YAY SUMMAH!!!! Right now I've been listening to "Good to Be Me" by Uncle Kracker for an excellent cruising in warm weather song. Love the pictures. Hawaii is on my list of places to go before I kick the bucket.
