youth has no age~picasso

Those of you who read this blog know that I'm a grandma times five..... My oldest grandson is growing by leaps and bounds. When they were here for Easter I actually had to look up at him, he's fourteen, can you believe it? Adam and I have a special relationship, I was there when he was born, baby sat a million times.... how could we not? I even cut his cord! Yuck!

But yuck isn't my "Y" word youth is.....

"Y" youth......

I've decided to just highlight some quotes about youth that I thought were witty or thoughtful.

But before that I thought I'd share with you a picture of my grandson, I really think it's adorable. This child is  so youthful so bright and just brimming with personality.

Don't you  love teenagers? They are their own breed! When I took this picture he was giving me "that look" as if to say Grandma really a camera!" "You're actually pointing that thing at moi?" Notice the forehead, it reminds me of The Rock with those creases and the eyebrow lift. Kinda cute!

Oh! to be young again!

Well, I know I'm not young anymore but I know I'm not old either. I guess for a while I get to live in that middle age dead zone. But there are times when I feel especially young, like when I step into the room with my childhood friends and the old stories start to fly. But to be truthful I don't really feel my age I think I feel a bit younger......but the kids deaths took it's toll on us as a family and me in particular; how could it not!

Anyhoo, here are some of the quotes I really liked and wanted to share with you.

"Youth is easily deceived because it is quick to hope."

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
Friedrich Nietzsche

"Youth is wasted on the young."
George Bernard Shaw

"In youth we learn; in age we understand."
Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach

"Youth is not restored by the dyeing of your hair."
Abu Bakr

"Forty is the old age of youth; fifty the youth of old age."
Victor Hugo

"Youth is happy because it has the ability to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old."
Franz Kafka

So friends, do you feel your age, or do you feel more youthful?

Do any of thee quotes speak to you, do you have a favorite?

  1. Jen, I feel youthful...very much so and I think teaching and being around kids solidifies that for me day in and day out...
love the quote: "In youth we learn; in age we understand." :) great 'y' post!

  2. I really enjoyed reading this post. I think that you can feel youth if you want to, but if you want to feel old ... You will feel that.

    1. I think you're right, youth can be about how we feel about ourselves....

  3. Great Y POST. I don't feel my age but I think it can depend on whose company you share.Sometimes my daughter makes me feel old mainly because what excites me doesn't do much for her and she probalbly thinks my life's quite dull. In company my own age and as you said talking of what we did when we were young make me feels younger.Doing my ato z of memeories of my young days hs made me relive them again and its great. Really cute grandson he will break a few hearts, and even if he didn't mean it to be its a great photo.

    1. I sometimes think my kids feel the same way {that we're dull} about my husband and I!
I guess at my age I move somewhere between feeling young and old because I am LOL

  4. I feel old right now because I need to lose weight. Once I lose the weight, I won't feel old. And what did you mean by "kids deaths"?

    1. How we think we look really does effect how we feel doesn't it?

  5. Okay, I read some other areas of your blog, and I know now what you mean by "kids deaths." I'm very sorry to learn of this, and I'm glad you have found the strength to carry on.

    1. Jolie,
Sometimes I forget new readers to the blog might not understand when i mention the death of our kids. Sorry :( Glad you found the answers you were looking for here on the blog. And thanks for your kind words!

With the Grace of God, a great family and fiends, and an awesome therapist I was able to move on. I really didn't have a choice-I had to move on it really for me HOW I moved on that made all the difference. For me that means remembering/honoring my children by living the best life I can.

    2. Jen,

You've found a path that is working for you, and you are a help to others who have dealt with a similar tragedy.

  6. Fun post! I feel very youthful. I think eating well, exercising, trying new things often and just being positive keeps me youthful -- even at 34! :) ~ Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/

    1. It sounds to me like your doing all the right things; oh how i wish i was 34 again :)

  7. First, that grandson of yours is quite the handsome young man- and I can tell that he has his grandma's humorous personality! Too bad he's not some years older- I do have daughters you know. We could have worked out a marriage contract. :) Second, I rarely feel as old as I am. I think. How is a 50+ year old supposed to feel? I do know that when the lovelies are all at home and my dad is around- I feel just like a kid! And when my college buddies are around- well, I'm not going there...LOL

  8. Like this post, Jen! Our culture is so obsessed with youth.....hard to avoid it at times. You are a proud grandma, I see! And no wonder!!
I like the 2nd quote by Nietzsche, he was a smart guy! Wonder what his youth was like.....
    Have a good weekend Jen.

  9. I really like 50 being the youth of old age. That makes me the baby again.

Love that picture. What a handsome boy he is!

  10. Your handsome 14 year old grandson looks 20, and you look more like his mom than his grandma! Having 6 grandchildren is something to be proud of! I also enjoyed the brilliant quotes! Julie

  11. He's such a cutie! I know that look, I get it every time I try to take a photo of my boys!

  12. fun and thoughtful. the one about youth being wasted on the young makes me laugh

  13. Dear Jen, I will catch up on your posts. After reading this one, the smile on my face is brimming wide. I love, love, love the photo you've shared of your oldest Grandson. A handsome young man! I also like the quote on his t-shirt :)

My son, Jaiden, will be ten, in seven days time. His excitement level is already through the roof. Me, I just can't believe it, he age is now double digits! We have a very special bond, the same one you speak of that you have with your Grandson.

Family and friends, so very precious!

Take care Jen, God's peace be with you. Your friend, KC xoxo
